Divine Rhythm Productions' foundations began back in 1999 when siblings Elka Samuels Smith and Jason Samuels Smith realized the changing times of the industry and the influx of unsupported talent. The company developed organically and was made official in 2002 out of the demand that existed, for a progressive and forthright organization that can support the business needs of Professional Tap Dancers, Performers, Choreographers, and Musicians worldwide.
Our purpose is to empower the artist with support in the areas of management, public relations, production, marketing and promotions, and consultant services while maintaining their own creative freedom.
We strive to elevate the Original African-American Art Form of Tap Dance and Music by implementing various methods to educate the mainstream about its past through the innovation of its present. In 1999 we established a free e-newsletter and later shifted to social media services for the dance and music community, in the effort to announce news and events and strengthen communication. We have also advised and consulted on numerous projects and worldwide festivals to enhance credibility and understanding, as well as improve conditions to support the ideal environment for artists' work to flourish.
In 2003, the company expanded to offer consulting services to dancers in other vernacular dance styles such as Jazz, African, Salsa, Hip Hop, Swing, and Afro-Brazilian among others. Professionals under management lead their respective fields and offer the highest quality of work for the Theatrical and Commercial industries respectively. Collectively their work has been recognized by numerous awards and recognitions including but not limited to Emmy, American Choreography, CLIO, Bessies, Adele & Fred Astaire, VH1-Hip Hop Honors, Lucille Lortel, Carbonelle, MTV, G.E.M.A., Drama Desk, Theater Audience and many more.
